Killingly High School Agricultural Animal Science Program to the Rescue!

The Killingly Agricultural Animal Science Program has partnered with Passion 4 Paws to provide students a forum in which to learn humane education, pet responsibility and assist with animal rescues.  Students from the sophomore class, along with animal science teacher Ms. Kegler, and UConn student teacher Ms. Dunn, come to the shelter several times during the school week. On weekends, other Ag Ed students perform required Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) hours. At P4P students learn to label, prep and administer oral medications, various topical gels, and subcutaneous fluids such as Lactated Ringers to dehydrated animals. Additionally, they learn skills that most students don’t learn until college; how to use a lancet to obtain a drop of blood from the tip of diabetic cat's ear, measure glucose levels with a glucometer, and inject insulin. The program teaches many of the same disease prevention techniques used in veterinary and human hospitals so students can maintain a pristine clean environment for the animals. On-going participation enables students to contribute to, and follow an animal’s health and social progress as they flourish into adoptable pets. P4P couldn't do what we do without the support of this program, and we look forward to a long and wonderful relationship with Ms. Kegler and these dedicated students.

Norwichtown Veterinary Hospital

We would like to extend a special thank you to our wonderful veterinarian, Dr. Amy Crockett. She and her staff at Norwichtown Veterinary Hospital provide expert veterinary care. More importantly, they treat each one of our animals with love, compassion, and respect. Their on-going support for Passion 4 Paws has allowed us to continue fighting the good fight, and we are forever grateful to them. Dr. Crockett is an accomplished poet, and author.
